Fundamentals of Cuban Salsa/Casino & Rueda de Casino, Part 1 (All Levels)

This class is structured for beginners with little-to-no dance experience and will allow you to develop a foundational knowledge of Cuban Salsa, also known as Casino, which originated in Cuba in the 1950’s and predates all styles of Salsa by at least two decades. Casino incorporates a diverse mixture of rhythms & dances such as Danzón, Mambo, Chachachá, Son, & Rumba and is defined by angular partner position changes as opposed to North American styles which have distinctive linear positions. It can be danced one-on-one as well as in a circular formation, or Rueda/wheel, in which dancers execute figures in unison while exchanging partners in dynamic and creative ways. This 90-minute workshop will focus on the specific technical aspects of Cuban Salsa, including basic steps and turn patterns, partnering technique, and the fundamental motions of Casino & Rueda de Casino.
